The closest result ever in Brentwood!
May 7th, 2010 by Cllr Karen ChilversI am delighted to announce that Nigel Clarke is now Cllr Nigel Clarke after winning last night’s election.
We knocked on a lot of doors yesterday telling you it would be close – but I had no idea how close it would be.
At 6am, after four recounts and with over 3,000 votes cast it finally came down to 1578 votes for Nigel and 1578 for the Tory candidate – dead heat.
The election was then decided by a drawing of lots and I am so happy to say that Nigel’s name was pulled out of the hat!
So now the Liberal Democrats hold three of the Brentwood West council seats: County Councillor David Kendall and borough councillors Nigel Clarke and myself.
I am also delighted to say that we now have a new councillor in the shape of Cllr Philip Mynott in Brentwood North too – making a very strong representation for the Liberal Democrats in the town centre.
We would like to thank all those residents who came out and voted Liberal Democrat yesterday!

That is DEFINITELY a great result.
On the other hand I’ve got to admit, I’m not happy about the national result: and can’t see either David Cameron OR Gordon Brown following through on any offers for PR.
